1. BLASCHKO’S LINES
Strange stripes all over the body
Blaschko’s lines are an extremely rare and unexplained phenomenon of human anatomy first presented in 1901 by German dermatologist Alfred Blaschko. either a specific disease nor a predictable symptom of a disease. blaschko’s lines are an invisible pattern built into human DNA.
Alfred Blaschko reported that many of his patients’ rashes and moles seemed to follow similar formations, almost as though they were tracing invisible lines. But those lines didn’t follow nerves or blood vessels. They didn’t represent any known body system.
Many inherited and acquired diseases of the skin manifest themselves according to these patterns creating the visual appearance of stripes the cause of the stripes is thought to result from Mosaicism.
They do not correspond to nervous muscular or lymphatic systems. What makes them more remarkable is that they correspond quite closely from patient to patient usually forming a V shape over the spine and S shapes over the chest stomach and sides.
2. PICA DISEASE: Eating Disorders
Pica is an eating disorder. Typically defined as the persistent eating of non-nutritive substances for a period of at least 1 month at an age in which this behaviour is developmentally inappropriate (eg, >18-24 mo). The definition occasionally is broadened to include the mouthing of non-nutritive substances. Individuals presenting with pica have been reported to mouth and/or ingest a wide variety of non-food substances, including, but not limited to, clay, dirt, sand, stones, pebbles, hair, faeces, lead, laundry starch, vinyl gloves, plastic, pencil erasers, ice, fingernails, paper, paint chips, coal, chalk, wood, plaster, light bulbs, needles, string, and burnt matches.
it is believed to be linked with mineral deficiency health-experts have found no real cause and cure for this disorder.
Pica is a serious behavioural problem because it can result in significant medical sequelae. The nature and amount of the ingested substance determine the medical sequelae. Pica has been shown to be a predisposing factor in accidental ingestion of poisons, particularly in lead poisoning.
Although no specific data exist regarding racial predilection, the practice is reported to be more common among certain cultural and geographic populations. For example, geophagia is accepted culturally among some families of African lineage and is reported to be problematic in 70% of the provinces in Turkey.
3. BLUE SKIN DISORDER:
A large family simply known as the blue people lived in the hills around troublesome Creek in Kentucky until the 1960s.
The blue Fugates , most of them lived past the age of 80 with no serious illness just loose skin. The trait was passed on from generation to generation.
The Blue Fugates were famously known for inheriting and passing on the rare gene that causes methemoglobinemia, a blood disorder that produces an abnormally high amount of methemoglobin (a form of hemoglobin). Individuals who have this disease are at risk of developing very dark, almost chocolate-colored blood or blue skin. The hemoglobin that they produce is unable to carry sufficient amounts of oxygen throughout the body and oxygenate tissues.
4. HYPERTRICHOSIS :werewolf syndrome
“Werewolf syndrome,” also known as hypertrichosis, is the excess production of hair, either in one specific area or all over the body.
It is unclear how hypertrichosis is obtained, but a form of it can be passed down genetically, according to Healthline.
The disease is called werewolf syndrome because people with it look like werewolves except without the sharp teeth and claws.
In summer 2019, at least 17 Spanish children have developed so-called “werewolf syndrome”, Spain’s health ministry has said. Instead of being treated with omeprazole, a drug that helps with gastric reflux, they had received a treatment of minoxidil, a medication against hair loss. How the laboratory FarmaQuimica Sur, based in Malaga, made the mistake, is not yet clear. The lab has been closed as a precaution
5. PROGERIA DISEASE
Progeria is caused by a single tiny defect in a child’s genetic code but it has devastating and life changing consequences.
On average a child born with this disease will be dead by the age of 13.
They develop striking physical symptoms often including premature baldness heart disease thinning bones and arthritis.
Progeria is an extremely rare autosomal dominant genetic disorder in which symptoms resembling aspects of aging are manifested at a very early age. Progeria is one of several progeroid syndromes. There are only around 48 people living with it in the whole world. However there is a family that has five children with the disease.
A single gene mutation is responsible for progeria. The gene, known as lamin A (LMNA), makes a protein necessary for holding the center (nucleus) of a cell together. When this gene has a defect (mutation), an abnormal form of the lamin A protein called progerin is produced and makes cells unstable.
6. ELEPHANTIASIS DISEASE: Lymphatic filariasis
Lymphatic filariasis, commonly known as elephantiasis, is a neglected tropical disease.
Elephantiasis is best known from dramatic photos of people with grossly enlarged or swollen arms and legs. The disease is caused by parasitic worms all transmitted by mosquitoes. Lymphatic filariasis, commonly known as elephantiasis, is a neglected tropical disease.
Infection is usually acquired in childhood causing hidden damage to the lymphatic system.
Elephantiasis is generally managed instead of treated. Management of elephantiasis includes wrapping of the infected limbs to prevent further swelling, and daily washing of the limb to prevent bacterial or fungal infection.
Elephantiasis tropica (known as lymphatic filariasis), caused by a number of parasitic worms, particularly Wuchereria bancrofti.
No fewer than 120 million people mostly in Africa and Southeast Asia, are affected by the disease. Nonfilarial elephantiasis (or podoconiosis), an immune disease affecting the lymph vessels. Leishmaniasis.
A wide range of mosquitoes can transmit the parasite, depending on the geographic area. In Africa, the most common vector is Anopheles and in the Americas, it is Culex quinquefasciatus. Aedes and Mansonia can transmit the infection in the Pacific and in Asia.
